Deoksugung is one of five royal palaces located in Seoul. Its name can be translated as the palace of virtuous longevity. Deoksugung Palace dates back from the 15th century and was used as a residence for the Grand Prince Wolsan, big brother of King Seongjong (1469-1494).

Deoksugung Palace is the smallest of the five palaces in Seoul. It is the final residence of King Gojong, the last King of the Joseon Dynasty and the first Emperor of Korea.
